WELCOME TO
BOSS NOSTALGIC 64...
A sprawling epic of 64-bit proportions. Follow Boss and his friends as they journey across everyone's favorite 90's video game that's actually just a comic.
It all started in 1992 or 1998 (or some sentimental year like that) in Hub Square, the comfortable center of the Radikool Kingdom. King Cayno, Princess Ollie and the fellow humans were celebrating 15 years of undisturbed peace when suddenly... their peace was disturbed.
Zobius, son of the evil and exiled scientist Dr. Killhofer, broke into their impervious city, killed King Cayno, and kidnapped Princess Ollie. Now, how does someone break into an impervious city? That you can entirely blame on Boss Nostalgic, the reclusive town screw-up who messed up literally the only thing he had to do that day. Now King Cayno's ghost is telling the city that Boss is the only one capable of saving the Kingdom. I know, I think he's batty too.
In Hub Square's neglect, the Kingdom outside of its walls have been slowly overrun with power-hungry thugs, chaotic maniacs, and Zobius's probably definitely massive army. Now Boss and his friends must travel level to level across the dangerous digital Kingdom to punch baddies, shoot zombie, solve puzzles, level up, ignore useless collectibles, make obscure 90's references, and save everyone's asses.
After hitting 'Continue' a few dozen times, of course.
CHOOSE YOUR FIGHTER
Boss Nostalgic
Boss has the reputation around town of being a loser. Maybe because everything he touches get ruined. Maybe it's from living in the shadow of his beloved warrior father. But with some confidence, this indoor kid may actually be the hero the Kingdom needs. He's skilled with any weapon he can get his hands on and shares his Dad's appetite for violence.
Skills: Weapons Expert + Sharp-Shooter
Ricochet
A member of an unknown, mythic Gachanose species that many thought to be completely extinct. Those same people believe its extinction came from its incredible stupidity, making Rico incredibly rare and basically useless. Boss and Ollie lug her around the Kingdom, hoping she one day comes in handy.
Skills: (None)
Smith Nostalgic
A once formidable warrior, Smith is credited for stopping Killhofer's revolt 15 years ago and saving Hub Square. These days he lives as the beloved town blacksmith, Boss's father, resident baking enthusiast, and just a tad bit unstable. His friendship with King Cayno goes back to childhood and lasted up until the very end.
Skills: Brute Strength + Skilled Blacksmith
Chatterbox
This mysterious hint box seems to show up whenever someone contextually needs him the most. What he lacks in desirable personality traits, he makes up for with sometimes accidentally helping people. The question is: is it worth dealing with him to get the help...
Skills: Almighty Advisor
Dr. Pete Killhofer
Decades ago Dr. Killhofer was widely known as the Kingdom's smartest man. When his plans to overthrow King Cayno became known, he and his son Zobius were exiled from Hub Square. He returned with an army to ambush the city but was killed by Smith Nostalgic. Hub Square walled itself off and his son was left to finish what he started.
Skills: Incredible Intellect + Influence
Olivia "Ollie" Cayno
The blunt, stubborn (and very occasionally kidnapped) Princess of the Radikool Kingdom. Ollie isn't clairvoyant like her father King Cayno, but has the potential to become a very powerful psychic. Her close friendship with Boss has faded since childhood, let's hope they can work together again. The Kingdom's fate may rely on it.
Skills: Telekinetic Powers + Healing Energy
Zobius Killhofer
When the evil, exiled scientist Dr. Killhofer was killed in his revolt on Hub Square, his young son Zobius was forced to roam the Kingdom alone as an unwanted orphan. Jaded and vengeful, Zobius spent the next 15 years recruiting troops and slowly taking control of everything outside of Hub Square's walls. His current plans remain a mystery.
Skills: Massive Army + Master Tinkerer
King Cassius Cayno
The all-knowing ruler of the Radikool Kingdom and Princess Ollie's father. King Cayno has looked over Hub Square for as long as anyone could remember, using his clairvoyance to help steer the city away from danger. With his sudden death also went some of the Kingdom's biggest secrets.
Skills: Omnipresent + Proficient Tactician
Gage Maverick
Boss's hometown rival and Hub Square's handsome meat-head. Gage's ego may be huge but it's rooted in the fact he actually may be the best. When he's not scoring touchdowns or swarmed by groupies, Gage is doing what he can cement his name in the history books. Ultimately, that same hubris was his downfall.
Skills: Charm, Looks, and Confidence
LEVEL SELECT
1: Hub Square
A safe, secluded, slice of suburban paradise and the last functioning city in the Radikool Kingdom. After Killhofer's revolt 15 years ago, the city built powerful shielding tech to keep anyone else from entering (or exiting). With the King and residents walled away, the entire Kingdom outside its walls has crumbled and turned to Zobius as their new ruler.
Residents: Humans
3: Hyland Island
This dense island is home to untamed jungles, lost tombs, & thousands of deadly wild (collectible) monsters known as "Gachanose." The Gachanose were once friendly companions, but once the world turned to chaos many have reverted back to their dangerous primitive state. Many scientists travel here for research but few return home.
Residents: Gachanose
5: Placate Acres
Once the cozy suburbs surrounding Hub Square, this area later served as the main battlegrounds during Killhofer's revolt. The surviving humans relocated to the walled-off Hub Square and these streets were left deserted. Recently a demonic entity radiating decay has bunkered down in the city, leaving the streets overflowing with evil & undead.
Residents: (Abandoned)
7: Blur
This snowy village at the foot of Frappe Peak is rooted in tradition. Kingdom residents would come from all over to celebrate the digital holiday “Jollyholli.” Lately though it’s been hammered with non-stop blizzards, food shortages, and sub-zero temperatures. These harsh conditions have left these peaceful people in a constant war for survival.
Residents: Pineherst
9: Question Mark
Years ago, a sudden mass of glitches sprung up around this former stretch of Placate Acres. The cause is a mystery and no one has ventured inside for fear the broken code would rip them to shreds. This cloud has been slowly growing for years and will eventually envelop the entire Kingdom with whatever madness it contains.
Residents: (Unknown)
2: Gladstone Crag
Abandoned ruins of a long forgotten utopia. This city was built by an ancient civilization that worshipped 8-bit gods and believed the land to be sacred. When the volcano it was built around erupted, it killed them all and left these dungeons empty for centuries. These days, Zobius uses these old chambers as a second stronghold.
Residents: Troltens
4: Bokum Beach
This formerly flawless resort town was once the premiere destination for a sunny sabbatical. Like the rest of the Kingdom, it collapsed after Hub Square walled itself off and is now unrecognizable from its heyday. Seedy types took over its streets and dangerous pirates set up shop on their coast, hoarding all the city's riches for themselves.
Residents: Totums, Skyrites
6: Barrenfair
A modest western town in the middle of a sprawling desert. Recently in the desert's long abandoned pyramid, Zobius summoned an ancient goddess as a warden for the Purple Cart. Mad with power, the sociopathic goddess turned anyone who couldn't solve her riddles into stone. The humble western folks never stood a chance...
Residents: Buckeruze
8: Stereoteria
This grimy, dystopian cyber-city floats above the Kingdom's ocean. Its meek robot residents work endlessly, building weapons and machines for Zobius's ever-growing armada. Hovering above the city is "Feedback," their mechanized boss and warden, looking down on the residents every move and making sure no one steps out of line even for a second.
Residents: Scraps
10: Fort Killhofer
Once the main laboratory for Dr. Killhofer, these facilities have always been the home to major scientific breakthroughs. After Killhofer's revolt and Hub Square's isolation, these labs became the main stronghold for Zobius's army and the new center of the Kingdom. Its walls are impenetrable & only all 8 Carts could get you into its keep.
Residents: The Killhofer Army
